Police eye jealousy in couple’s death

INVESTIGATORS are looking into jealousy as one of the motives behind the death of a couple in Sitio Maracas, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City last Sunday dawn.

Supt. Ryan Devaras, chief of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of the Cebu City Police Office said that Jerson Lawas, 29, and his live-in partnerPruann Apole, 48, a businesswoman, had a fight prior to the incident.

Lawas, who drank liqour, may have stabbed Apole to death in the living room before slashing his wrist and shooting himself in the head, police said.

Lawas used a caliber .22 (not a caliber .38 as previously reported) to shoot himself, which was allegedly owned by Apole.

Monette Bitos, 30, Apole’s niece, alleged that her aunt was a jealous type of woman and it is usually the reason of the couple’s fights.

The couple were found inside their rented room, bloated and bathed in their own blood.

Police also recovered a 14-inch knife, nine live bullets of caliber .22, one empty shell, assorted jewelries, mobile phones and P92,600 cash.

The couple will undergo ballistic and paraffin tests. (JOB)
