Police: Improve streetlights, install CCTVs

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) asked the City Government to improve the lightings and to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras on the streets to help the police deter crimes during night time.

Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of BCPO, said among the factors that can contribute to crime prevention are well-lighted areas and CCTVs.

Vargas said they assure the public that police is doing its job to address crimes, but they also need the support of the local government unit by implementing such projects.

Earlier, Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairperson of committee on peace and order, urged the BCPO to intensify its visibility patrol during night time after an Israeli national was shot by one of the three unidentified men who robbed the two customers of his restobar on C.L. Montelibano Avenue in Barangay Villamonte last week.

Shmuel Haimovitch, 60, was inside the establishment with his wife, when the three men on a motorcycle arrived and declared a hold-up. He was shot by one of the perpetrators.

Vargas said 10 personnel of the Mobile Patrol Group roam around the villages on board their motorcycles to conduct visibility patrol.

“The deployment of personnel during the day is different from the one in the evening, but the police is (are) still visible,” she added.
