Police raid Salic’s rest house in Misamis Oriental

AUTHORITIES on Wednesday, June 28, seized explosives, ammunition, and bomb components in yet another house of former Marawi City Mayor Fajad Salic at Consuelo village, Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental.

Armed with a search warrant, personnel of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC), Magsaysay town police, and the Martial Law Special Action Group (MLSAG) raided the house of Salic on suspicion of violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591).

Recovered during the search were one Mk2 fragmentation grenade, 2 rifle grenades, 40mm cartridge, 30 rounds of 5.56mm live ammo, 6 non-electrical blasting caps, customized electric switch, pilot valve attached to a jack connector, a 9 volts battery and 2 packs of undetermined gray powder.

The search, made around 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, was witnessed by a village official and the house care taker identified as Angelita Sulla.

Authorities also invited Sulla to the police station for further questioning and investigation, while the seized items were brought to the PNP crime laboratory.

Police later released the caretaker after the latter cooperated in the probe and disclosed that she was not aware that such items were being kept at the house.

Police Officer 1 (PO1) Almiro Vinco of Magsaysay town police, said operatives had started monitoring Salic's house after the latter’s arrest at Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

Authorities said based on the information from the intelligence network, armed men had been coming in the house, prompting them to apply for a search warrant from the court.

Vinco said the house of Salic, about 100 meters away from the highway, is concealed by tall grass and trees.

"Medyo sudlonon gayud ilang balay kay padulong sa dagat unya natabunan sa mga tag-as nga sagbot ug kahoy," Vinco said.

"Gi-release na ang care taker kay gi-invite raman to siya for interview unya iyang ingon nga ga-anhaan ra daw si Salic diha,"Vinco added.

Salic was arrested in a checkpoint at Villanueva, Misamis Oriental last June 7 on rebellion charges.

He was among the over 100 personalities on the arrest orders issued by the Department of the National Defense signed by martial law administrator secretary Delfin Lorrenzana.
