TO PREVENT party drugs from penetrating Cebu City, police will hold a dialogue with bar and nightclub owners to discuss security measures.
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Joel Doria is considering entering into an agreement with owners wherein police can freely enter establishments if trouble arises.
“The purpose of the meeting is to let our police officers, may they be in uniform or in civilian clothes, have access inside to monitor because if you’ll notice, there are discos and bars where brawls often take place. We don’t know. Maybe some of those partygoers are on drugs,” he said in Tagalog.
Still not common
The CCPO also hopes to prevent drunken brawls in these establishments.
Doria said they sent individual letters to establishment owners because they’re not organized.
According to the latest report from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7, designer drugs like ecstasy is not yet common in Central Visayas.
Last May, four persons who attended a 12-hour concert in Pasig City died because of drug overdose.
The victims reportedly experienced shortness of breath, palpitation and a sudden rise in blood pressure when they consumed drinks laced with drugs.
Meanwhile, the CCPO signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) to handle crimes in the grassroots level.
Disseminating info
The signing was witnessed by Police Regional Office 7 Director Noli Taliño, Doria, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella and Philip Zafra, ABC president.
The parties agreed to establish a cluster for each police station in Cebu City.
“We’ll conduct an information dissemination first and after that, the implementation so that there will be no regrets,” Doria said in Tagalog, referring to the curfew ordinance that prevents minors from loitering on the streets late at night.
The ABC is also obligated to provide information to the CCPO, especially on the peace and order situation of each barangay.
