Police to monitor minors ‘recruited’ by frats

SENIOR Superintendent Julian Entoma, the Cebu City Police Office officer-in-charge, said on Wednesday morning, January 31, he will order his personnel to monitor the minors in Sitio Fatima, Barangay Basak Pardo who were reportedly recruited by two fraternities.

The minors were reportedly used as drug couriers, according to Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) Chief Gary Lao.

Lao, in a phone conference with police reporters, described the situation as alarming.

He said Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña received the complaints from residents last year.

Entoma said he will instruct Pardo Police Station, including its Women and Children's Protection Desk to look into the report.

Engaging minors in illegal drug trade is a violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
