Police to probe Lapu-Lapu bomb scare

POLICE Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Noli Taliño has ordered an investigation to identify the persons behind a Facebook page that reported about the presence of a bomb in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, on July 4.

The page, Cebu Flash Report, posted on Facebook on Tuesday that a bomb was planted in front of a store in Barangay Basak, causing panic among residents in the area.

The PRO-Central Visayas said in a statement though that the "bomb" was actually a "VGL R-131 ULS AM/FM radio."

“Upon verification and validation by our EOD/K9 units, the said item suspected to be an improvised explosive device is actually a VGL R-131 ULS AM/FM radio. Hence, the bomb report yielded a negative result,” said the PRO.

Taliño said Wednesday that he will tap the Anti-Cybercrime Group Visayas Field Unit to determine the Facebook page administrator who circulated the fake news on Facebook.

“Huwag tayo mag-post sa social media na nakakatakot sa public (We should not post anything scary to the public on social media),” Taliño said.

The Lapu-Lapu City Government, through its City Legal Office (CLO), is also considering filing a case against the person responsible for posting the bomb scare on Facebook.

Mayor Paz Radaza said she is willing to file the case if the CLO recommends it.

"Di gyud mao (ang gi-post) (The post is incorrect). I told the City Legal Office here to review this. Kung makiha atong buhaton ()," she said. (SunStar Philippines)
