Police told to intensify drive vs ‘solvent boys’

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia on Monday directed Senior Superintendent Flynn Dongbo, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), to intensify their campaign against “rugby” boys or young people who sniff solvent.

Leonardia said policemen should intensify visibility patrol operations to arrest them.

Last week, the Department of Social Services Development (DSSD) received a letter from the government’s 8888 emergency hotline regarding the sightings of several “rugby” boys.

Leonardia said he already called the attention of the DSSD to also address the concern.

Since August 12, minors who sniff solvent were arrested along Lacson Street, San Juan Street, Public Plaza, Central Market, Libertad Market, Circumferential Road, North Drive, and Golden Field Commercial Complex.

The operation was conducted by the DSSD along with personnel of Bacolod City Police Office Women and Children Protection Desk.

Elizabeth Caumban, social welfare officer II, had earlier said some of the minors were endorsed to the Social Development Center while the others were returned to their parents.
