Policemen on foot patrol witness illegal drug ‘sale’

THREE foot patrol policemen in Barangay Duljo-Fatima in Cebu City last Tuesday night chanced upon a woman allegedly selling a pack of what is believed to be shabu to a suspected re-seller.

PO3 Lester Dajao, PO3 Anselmo Delos Santos and PO2 Rusty Pelayo arrested Jonas Navarro, 37, who allegedly handed over payment for a large pack of suspected shabu with a street value of P295,000.

The woman who sold the suspected illegal substance to Navarro, however, escaped.

Senior Insp. Regino Maramag Jr., officer-in-charge of the Mambaling Police Station, said that Navarro is a resident of Barangay Bulacao in Talisay City.

He said that Navarro may have gone to Sitio Bayotan in Duljo-Fatima to allegedly buy illegal drugs for repacking and reselling.

Maramag said Sitio Bayotan is one of the places in the barangay that have to be monitored for alleged drug-related activities. “Alam naman natin 'pag Duljo-Fatima, eh marami talaga d'yan (If you mention Duljo-Fatima, we know there's a lot of illegal activities there),” he told Sun.Star Cebu.

Dajao, delos Santos and Pelayo were on patrol at 11:30 p.m. when they chanced upon Navarro and the woman in a small alley. They allegedly saw Navarro give the woman some peso bills and accept a large pack of suspected shabu in return.

The police officers ran toward the suspects to arrest the two but the woman was too quick for them, said Maramag. He said that Navarro has refused to identify the woman.

During the police investigation, law enforcers learned that the pack weighed 25 grams.

Navarro will be facing a non-bailable criminal complaint for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
