PPCRV's de villa to retire next month

AFTER serving as chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) for 25 years, Ambassador Henrietta de Villa is set to retire next month at the silver anniversary of the church-based election watchdog group.

She noted that it is time to pass on the leadership to a new head with new ideas and aspirations that are relevant to the current times.

"Yes definitely, (I am retiring) para bago naman mukha bago naman pananaw. We are in the millennium, dapat mga millenials na 'yan. When I took on PPCRV batang bata pa ako noon. I started this 1991, I started October 19 launch," the PPCRV head explained.

The new head will be nominated by diocesan coordinators after the nomination a shortlist will be made with 30 or 35 nominees, it will then be cut to only 10.

"May vetting committee to shortlist of 10, those ten I would bring up to Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBPCP) leadership (Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas and permanent committee) kasi we are using church infrastructure, papakita naman," she added.

The nomination process started last June 6 until July 10, while the vetting and shortlisting will be until 3rd week of July. The election will be on 1st week of August, when the General Assembly and the Board of Trustees will elect the new PPCRV chair.

"By August PPCRV should have a new chair. I leave right after PPCRV 25th anniversary, beginning of term of new chair," De Villa said.

Among the qualifications the board will be looking for in the new leader, he/she has to have the three Ks, (Karakter, Kakayanan at Katapatan) and has serve the organization at least 6 continuous years experience either coordinator or volunteer.

On the other hand, De Villa said she will be busying herself in other endeavors after she retired.

"Nagiisip ako kung ano gagawin ko and I have my Mother Butlers Guild. Gusto ko magpaproject sa kabataan I will start small. Una hingi ako, lagay ako database sa mga bata, start with our volunteers umpisa ako. For education sa mga mahihirap," she added.

The PPCRV was the accredited citizens' arm in the last May 9 national and local polls.
