Preacher loses P500,000 tithes to burglars

A PREACHER on Sunday, February 25, lost P500,000 cash given as offerings by church members, and his wife's assorted jewelry worth P10,000 in Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla town, Cebu.

Senior Police Officer 1 Francisco Salubre, desk officer, identified the victims as Crisostomo Paño, a Baptist church member, and Jennifer, a public school teacher.

Before they discovered the burglary, the couple attended a church service past 8 a.m. on the same day.

The Paños arrived home past 7 p.m. They later discovered the metal box containing the cash and jewelry were gone inside their room.

Investigation showed the culprits possibly climbed the back of the house. They came inside the room by destroying the iron grills of the window.

Salubre said the investigators are still identifying the identities of the perpetrators by checking the closed-circuit television cameras of neighboring houses. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
