Prices of some ‘Undas’ items in Bacolod stable

PRICES of food commodities in demand during “Undas” or All Saints’ Day have remained steady.

There was no movement in the prices of sticky rice (pilit) sold at the Central Market in Bacolod City.

Like ordinary days, white variety is still sold at P75 per kilo while the “tapul” or black variety remains at P80 per kilo.

Vendor Jimmy Bugyas Monday, October 30, said prices of the commodity will no longer move towards Wednesday, the actual day of observance.

Bugyas said they have already secured enough stocks from their supplier in Bago City at a steady price and sales are expected to pick up starting today.

“There are many ambulant vendors outside the market thus, it is most likely hard for us to fully sell our stocks,” he added.

Amid the significant increase in demand, prices of sugar have also remained stable at the Central Market.

Dark and light brown sugar are still sold at P35 per kilo while washed and refined cost P40 and P45 per kilo, respectively.

Vendors said they are not anticipating increase in the prices of the commodity as stocks are enough to supply the demand during the occasion.

Candles sold at the Central Market also have stable prices.

Sperma candles cost P3 per piece while prices of vigil candles range from P5 to P10 per piece, depending on sizes.

Prices of flowers at the public plaza have already increased since Saturday.

Vendors said that starting Tuesday, prices are expected to even triple especially when there are “disturbances” like bad weather which may affect shipment of additional supply from Manila and Cebu.

Arranged flowers now costs P200 to P300 per basket depending on sizes, which may still rise to P350 to P500 on Wednesday.
