THE Department of Education (DepEd) is investigating the death of a Grade 7 student of Inayawan Night High School last week.

Ronald Lerin, district supervisor, said they will ask the family of the student, Clester Jake Encabo Nacional, 13, to allow an autopsy.

Clester Jake, a resident of Cogon, Pardo, Cebu City, was described as intelligent in class.

Lerin promised a thorough investigation on the incident after Sister Mary Jude Alcance, of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians/Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, called his attention on the matter.

Alcance said the aunt of Clester Jake, who is working at Lourdes Parish, told her about what happened to the boy.

“The family of the student who are very poor must be given justice on the death of Clester Jake,” said Alcance, adding that the incident reportedly happened inside the classroom and during class.

Alcance said the aunt narrated that Clester Jake’s mother, Mary Ann Nacional, was informed that last Friday night, the boy was ordered by his teacher to climb a wall to get something and fell.

He lost consciousness and was brought to Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Alcance first contacted Lerin’s counterpart, Rizalinda Cairo, the school district supervisor of Punta Princesa Night High School.

The talked to Lerin, who happened to be with Cairo at the time she called her (Cairo).

Lerin told Sun.Star Cebu that they are looking into the incident carefully especially that the school principal, Ma. Lourdes Jaca, submitted to him an incident report from the teacher that the student was asleep on his chair and fell, causing his death.

“Imposible sab og mamatay kon sa lingkoranan ra siya nahulog ilabi kon naglingkod. We need to get the details of what really happened,” Lerin said.

Lerin said he was only informed by Jaca about Clester Jake’s death last Saturday, during an event at Cebu City Science High School.

Lerin said they need witnesses in the investigation.
