A PROPOSED ordinance on the creation of City Archives and Records Department was passed on first reading last Tuesday.

The item was recommended to the committee on appointments Chair Maria Cherry Ann Bonguyan.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in a letter received by the City Council secretary last May 30, 2017, stated that she is honored to submit, for legislative authority, the proposal for the creation and establishment of city archives and records department.

The mayor said that the creation of the city archives and records center would result to the centralization of records management, thereby providing easy access to existing records with the use of the worldwide standard of record management through digitalization of the creation, sending and filing of documents.

The proposed office shall consist of a total of 96 personnel with nine positions to be created and 87 existing positions coming from the different offices of the City Government.

The total budgetary requirement for the creation of new positions is estimated at P4,528,284.56.

She added that all the record officers, record clerks and other employees whose duties and responsibilities revolved in the handling of records and documents in the different offices and departments of Davao City shall be transferred to the new office.

City Archives and Record Center (CARC) head Ann Victoria G. Silvosa said the city appropriated P20 million for the construction of a four-storey building to serve as a central repository of all the city records.

The building is set to be constructed at the Institutional area at the New Matina Sites and Services fronting the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal.
