PSC head to attend Daprisa sports fest

NO LESS than the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez will grace the opening ceremony of the Davao Association of Private Schools and Administrators (Daprisa) Sports Festival on October 25 at Precious International School of Davao (PISD).

Daprisa president Dr. Judith Bacarro, who is also the principal of Southpoint School Inc., said on Thursday that the PSC chairman confirmed his presence to be the guest speaker for the opening program, adding that PSC also allocated a monetary support of the sports festival.

But Bacarro said that Ramirez will finish the whole duration of the ceremony considering his tight schedule.

The opening program will feature the parading of 57 Daprisa-member schools who will vie for honors in the sports festival that serves as the selection basis for Unit 9's representative in the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet set on October.

The sports festival, according to Bacarro will feature 17 different sports events including High School and elementary volleyball, basketball for cadet, junior and elementary, lady basketball, elementary and high school table tennis, elementary and high school badminton, soccer, elementary and high school dama, elementary and high school swimming, elementary and high school taekwondo, high school sepak takraw, futsal and lawn tennis that will be played in different venues.

Bacarro also said in the past four years of her service, she had witnessed outstanding athletes from Daprisa reaching the Palarong Pambansa each year.

She added that Daprisa aims to strengthen the character of each athlete as they believe in the statement, "Character is the Game."

The sports festival's closing ceremony, meanwhile, will be on September 30 at the Christian Colleges of Southeast Asia in Ma-a.

Daprisa will also hold a Music Festival set on November.
