THE Police Regional Office (PRO) Davao Regional Advisory Council is lobbying for the support of the community in helping the Philippine National Police (PNP) in weeding out scalawag members of the organization.
"In the midst of the challenges that the PNP is facing today, we are now looking inside the organization. Yung pag-iyak ni PNP General Bato (Ronald dela Rosa), ibig sabihin malaki ang problema sa loob," said Regional Advisory Council chairperson Ednar Dayanghirang.
Dayanghirang said the PNP is trying to achieve its goal that by 2030 it will be a highly capable, effective and credible police service working in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safer place.
Dela Rosa earlier broke down in tears after a self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa claimed that he gave payola to high ranking policemen for his protection. Dela Rosa admitted that he is finding it hard to clean their ranks.
"We really need to help the leadership of the PNP in weeding out the erring cops through information, kasi pag hindi tayo sumali baka matapos nalang yung six years marami pang naiwan sa loob ng PNP," Dayanghirang said.
In a data obtained from the PNP, Dayanghirang said, the internal cleansing effort of the organization from January to November 23 this year yielded 1,048 total policemen are under the counterintelligence watchlist nationwide.
He added that there are 17 policemen administratively charged; 13 were criminally charged; 30 killed, of which 11 cases are under investigation, 40 were arrested and 43 surrendered under President Rodrigo Duterte’s pronouncement.
There are also five policemen who earlier surrendered, but these are not under the president's pronouncement. The PNP also recorded 181 policemen who tested positive for illegal drugs in random drug test.
Dayanghirang said the police's work is geared towards its vision for the community to have a safer place to live, work, and do business; with its mission to enforce the law, prevent and control crimes, and maintain peace and order.
The PNP is now already working on its resource management (the financial and logistic resources) following the PNP's Charter Statement, a 2030 roadmap, followed with learning and growth then process excellence, for the community.
