Public warned vs common diseases during rainy season

WITH the onset of the rainy season, the Davao City Health Office (CHO) urged the public to take health precautions to ward off diseases.

Among the diseases that people should keep away from are influenza or flu, dengue fever, cholera, and leptospirosis, CHO head Dr. Josephine Villafuerte said.

She said flu is prevalent during the wet season, adding that it would be better for everyone to have healthy diet to boost the immune system or get a vaccine against the virus.

The CHO also reminded the public to take health precautions against the deadly dengue fever by destroying mosquito breeding sites.

“Let’s clean our surroundings. Make sure that your house is protected from mosquitoes, and also seek early medical attention for fever that last more than two days to prevent disease,” Villafuerte said.

Villafuerte said frequent hand washing and practicing good hygiene is a good way to protect one’s self from diseases, such as cholera and leptospirosis, among others.
