THE Philippine Women’s College (PWC) Patriots mounted a formidable 29-5 lead in the first period and never looked back to beat the Holy Cross College of Agdao (HCCA), 105-32, in the resumption of the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) Sports Festival High School Basketball Tournament at the PWC basketball gym in Juna Subdivision, Davao City on Wednesday, September 6.
Rax Actub canned 23 points for the Patriots as teammate Maniago added 14 points to seal the victory.
The Laurence Bencio-mentored PWC also competed in the recently-concluded Flying V Cup where they made a rare feat of posting four straight wins before bowing out in the quarterfinals.
PWC, however, bowed to Holy Cross College of Sasa (HCCS) as the latter avenged its sister team by nipping the former, 85-82, in an afternoon game.
Glen Anthony Pasquito sank 17 points while Willyvic Dulom chipped in 13 for the 2016 Dacs third placer HCCS.
Gerald Louis Labastida of PWC erupted with 24 baskets as Actub had eight and Maniago with four.
The tournament serves as qualifying for the Davao City Athletic Association Meet en-route to the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2018 to be hosted by Davao City.
Meanwhile, Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera earlier said that preparations shift to high gear for the city's Davraaa Meet hosting.
Coordination meetings with the Department of Education Davao City Division and other stakeholders are being held to beef up the readiness of the city.
The University of Mindanao (UP) Olympic-sized track oval and the Davao City-UP Mindanao Sports Complex Olympic-sized pool are among the venues tapped for the hosting.
Aportadera assured that security and billeting concerns are being addressed to ensure a successful staging of the regional meet, which is a qualifying for the Palarong Pambansa. (With Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan)
