Quake rocks Agusan del Sur

A MAGNITUDE 5.7 earthquake hit Agusan del Sur, Caraga Region and its environs Sunday morning, September 4, with lower intensity felt as far as Cagayan de Oro City, Kidapawan City, the state volcanology reported.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismoloy (Phivolcs) said the quake struck 16 kilometers South and 39 degrees East of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur at around 10:38 a.m.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, has a depth of 8 kilometers, Phivolcs said.

It was felt at intensity 4 in Butuan City, intensity 2 in Cagayan de Oro City, and intensity 1 in Kidapawan City, Surigao City, Sarangani City, and Bislig City.

The quake's tremors were also felt in Davao City, but its intensity was not specified in the bulletin.

Phivolcs said that they expect aftershocks from the quake.
