Red Cross asks support for addt’l P1 cinema fee

THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Negros Occidental-Bacolod City Chapter has asked the support of the City Government in endorsing the continued collection of P1 additional entrance fee to all cinemas in the city.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said Friday that on January 23, he received a letter from PRC Negros Occidental-Bacolod City Chapter signed by its officer-in-charge Rita Benita Mirasol and chairman of Board of Directors Carlos Ganihong.

In their letter to Familiaran, they said that they sustain the implementation of its various humanitarian services through its fund generation project.

“Thus, we are so grateful for the support of the city government when in 2012, the City Council passed a resolution endorsing the request of PRC Negros Occidental-Bacolod City Chapter to the Bacolod City Theater Owners and Operators to collect the amount of P1 as additional entrance fee from each moviegoer subject to the terms and conditions that both parties may agree,” they said.

They pointed out that the proceeds from cinema collections enable them to preposition goods and capable staff and volunteers in responding to various safety deployments, emergencies, and disasters in the city.

The Red Cross noted that of three cinemas in Bacolod, only SM Cinema was able to collect and remit the additional entrance fee until now.

The Gaisano Grand and Robinsons Place cinemas signed an agreement for six months only and did not renew the agreement thereafter.
