Regional science meeting held

THE National Academy of Science and Technology (Nast) Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology (Dost)-Visayas Cluster held a two-day Visayas Regional Scientific Meeting at L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City which kicked off on Wednesday, April 11.

Scientists and academicians gathered in the city to engage in insightful review and discussions in line with the thrust of President Rodrigo Duterte of bringing science initiative to the regions where food production needs to be improved and innovation needs to be developed.

Adopting the sustainable goals, the meeting aimed to provide an insightful review of the Philippine performance and initiatives in relation to six clean water sanitation, 11 sustainable cities, and communities and 15 Life on Land, which are targeted for 2018 to 2030.

Invited experts include National Scientist Raul Fabella, National Economic and Development Authority Undersecretary Adoracion Navarro, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chairman Martin Delgra III, Solar Philippines president Leandro Leviste, President and University of the Philippines Diliman School of Economics assistant professor Majah-Leah Ravago.

Policy recommendations on appropriate interventions as agreed upon during the plenary sessions will be submitted to the Philippine government and to the private sector. (CNC)
