Revised regional meet format 'big challenge' for Nopsscea

THE new format to be adopted by the Department of Education (Deped)-Negros Island Region (NIR) in the conduct of regional meet next year will affect not only the various DepEd divisions, but also the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural, and Educational Association (Nopsscea).

Ryan Mark Molina, STI West Negros University executive vice president and Nopsscea sports committee head, said the changes in the conduct of sports undertaking will become a big challenge for the organization as a whole.

“We are taking the issue before the board in order for us to come up with necessary action in line with these developments,” he said.

As earlier reported, DepEd-NIR announced that the forthcoming regional meet in Dumaguete City will feature the 16 schools divisions of the region, with 10 from Negros Occidental and six from Negros Oriental.

The provincial-based divisions are San Carlos City, Escalante City, Sagay City, Cadiz City, Silay City, Bacolod City, Bago City, La Carlota City, Kabankalan City, and Negros Occidental.

In the case of Nopsscea and Anopssai member-schools which are based outside Bacolod City, they must return to their respective LGUs.

For Bacolod-based private schools, they will compete under the Division of Bacolod.

Negotiations are in progress between Nopsscea and the Division of Bacolod for a possible dual-meet in which the winners earn the right to represent the division in the regional meet.
