Robredo coming to Bacolod on Dec. 17

VICE President Leni Robredo will come to Bacolod City on Saturday, December 17 for the culmination of the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women (EVAW).

This was confirmed to SunStar Bacolod on Monday by lawyer Andrea Lizares Si, who organized the activity.

Robredo’s upcoming visit is her first since she took over as vice president on June 30.

This year’s theme of the campaign is “VAW-Free Community Starts with Me” that emphasizes the continuing pursuit of a VAW-free community through everyone’s commitment and contributions to ending violence against women.

The theme also shifts the campaign to positive advocacy messaging to encourage more people to participate and commit to pursuing the common vision of a VAW-free community.

The culmination activity, set at 1:30 p.m., will be held at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel, where Robredo will talk about the considerations in a VAW-Free community based on the present circumstances.

Robredo will also lead the awarding of the best barangay VAW desks that caters to women who are victims of violence.

Si said that despite more than 20 years since creating the provincial council for women’s advocacy against VAW, the signs of the times have never been more distressing.

Hence, it is difficult to think of VAW-free communities when sexist remarks and attacks on women’s sexuality fill the television screens and social media, she added.
