PAROKYA ni Edgar, one of the country's premier pop-rock band created a mass hysteria at Abreeza Mall as part of their promotion for their album Inuman Sessions Vol. II last July 6.
Rock fans including myself, was brought back to our younger years, head banging, shrieking to the hits including Mr. Suave, Picha Pie, Halaga among others.
The place was packed from top to bottom, as the mammoth crowd pushes their way to the stage, thanks to the huge barricades. I thought that the mall instantly was transformed to a ready to drink and have a good time with overflowing beer area. The audience shouted like crazy, eager to see the band live on stage.
After all, the band has been around since the 90's, and remained solid for decades now and has built a solid following of loyal fans who grew up with their songs.
Parokya opened the show with songs like “My One and Only You”, Para SA Iyo, Yes Yes Show, Mr. Suave, Halaga and Pangarap Lang Kita.
The band's lead vocalist Chito Miranda got the loudest cheers from the crowd as he rather eluded the stage to perform at the makeshift staircase to the delight of the fans.
As expected the band, particularly Chito provided a comic relief, his comic timing, had me in fits. He also gamely asked the help of a female fan named “Kris” to do a duet with him, the song “Pangarap Lang Kita”.
The band perhaps was enjoying the warm and overwhelming welcome of their Dabawenyo fans that they forego the three song show to a one hour concert.
They also announced that they will allow more fans to join them for the Meet and Greet session.
“This new volume is actually a continuation of the first,” Chito said. “It is a celebration of music, booze, fun, and friendship.”
It was an awesome show that rocked Davao. And though it was only a short show, I considered it my lucky day. I did not only get to jam with my favorite band, I was also able to take lots of photos while they were performing.
