JAYSON Salubre emerged champion in the just-concluded fifth APM Open Chess Tournament held at the Damosa Market Basket, Lanang over the weekend.
Salubre tallied perfect five points in the five-round Swiss System format chessfest to annex the open title over Hareve James Sumatra (4.5) and Mary Israel Palero (4.0), who placed second and third, respectively.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Regional Director James Infiesto scored four points to place fourth.
Salubre pocketed P3,000 while Sumatra and Palero received P1,500 and P800, respectively.
Rounding up the top eight were other four-pointers Gino Angelo Asuncion, Rodrigo Catayas sixth, Exiquila Apao and Japeth Aaron Caresosa.
Special awards were given to Catayas (top 2050 below), Palero (top female) and Wesley Jovan Magbanua (top under 12).
