JAYSON Salubre, Philgymn Villajuan and John Gerard Acedo topped their respective categories in the just-concluded 11th APM Chess Tournament held at the Damosa Market Basket in Lanang, Davao City.
Salubre scored perfect five points in the five-round Swiss System Format chessfest to annex the Open Rapid Chess 960 title over Harison Maamo (4.0) and Rodrigo Catayas (4.0) that placed second and third, respectively.
Salubre received P2,000 and a trophy while Maamo got P1,000 and Catayas took home P500.
Rounding up the top 10 were Perkins Bayron (3.5), Earl Rhay Mantilla (3.0), Rey Gempero (3.0), Macacuna Macala (3.0), John Gerard Acedo (3.0), Jimzon Trangia (3.0) and Darwin Bermudez (3.0). Each received P300 consolation prize.
Villajuan, meanwhile, also swept all his matches in junior boys under-19 to outclass Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa)-bound Wesley Jovan Magbanua (4.0) and Kurt John Placencia (4.0) who took the next two spots.
Villajuan went home with P1,000 and a trophy while the next two placers settled for P500 and P300.
Acedo, for his part, edged fellow 4.5-pointer Reynaldo Gempero Jr. to annex the Open Blitz 960 title via superior tiebreaks.
Gempero finished second while Catayas (4.0) came third.
Acedo claimed P700 and a trophy as Gempero got P500 and Catayas earned P300.
