San Fernando mayor denies involvement in Alicaway murder

SAN Fernando Mayor Neneth Reluya denied allegations that she may be behind the murder of town councilor Alexander Alicaway.

Reluya told SunStar Cebu that while she and Alicaway were from opposing parties, she cannot, in her conscience, commit violent acts against him or any of her political opponents.

Reluya’s reaction came after Alicaway's family and supporters aired their sentiments on mainstream and social media that the councilor's death may be due to politics.

Alicaway, a veteran legislator in the town, was reportedly on his way to the San Fernando Municipal Hall to deliver a letter that he plans to be discussed on Monday when he was shot dead by two unidentified suspects.

The letter, reportedly sent by an anonymous source, stated that San Fernando's current administration was reportedly conducting the illegal selling of unserviceable vehicles and heavy equipment to scrap metal dealers without undergoing any bidding process.

Reluya urged Alicaway's family to "look into all angles" of the councilor's murder. She also urged her critics, especially those allied with the opposing bloc, to not politicize Alicaway's death. (JKV/SunStar Cebu)
