Santiago kin clarifies former senator not in ICU

THE camp of Miriam Defensor-Santiago has clarified that the former senator, who has been battling cancer since 2014, was only confined in a private room and not in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in BGC Taguig, contrary to an earlier report.

“Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago is in a private room of St. Luke’s Global, not in the ICU. She is currently being treated for her cancer and the family is hoping that she will fully recover," Mechel Santiago, daughter-in-law of the former Senato, said in her Facebook post.

She also thanked the public for praying for Santiago's health.

"Thank you for continuously praying for her. She loves all of you. She is a fighter and will continuously fight this battle,” she added.

Mechel also said that the medicines Santiago is taking are the same drugs that cured former US President Jimmy Carter.

Santiago announced that she has lung cancer in July 2014, but late last year, just before the campaign period, she announced that she was already cured. (Sunnex)
