Scavenger gets killed, thrown near garbage pick-up point

A SCAVENGER with multiple stab wounds was found inside a blue plastic barrel, his head covered with a sack, in Las Tresas, Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Robert N. Guarin, 28, another scavenger, said he was poking around some garbage around 6 a.m. to look for things to save when he discovered the victim, who remains unidentified.

The man is believed to be in his early 40s. He is slim, about 5’3”, brown-skinned and wore his hair cropped short.

He wore black denim shorts but was shirtless. At least 10 stab wounds marked his trunk.

Guarin said the dead man was also a scavenger who frequented the downtown area.

He said that he thought at first that the barrel with a sack was filled with garbage.

He was stunned to find the body instead.

SPO4 Alex Dacua, who led a Homicide Section team that responded to the alarm, said the body was found in an area where residents usually leave their garbage for pickup.

Dacua said they did not know yet why the man was killed, and are looking for possible witnesses to help them identify the killer.

In the meantime, the victim was brought to the Cebu Memorial Funeral Homes for possible identification by relatives.
