Scholarship grants offered to unemployed young professionals

THE Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) is offering scholarship to individuals who aspire and have the potential to become a teacher.

The PBEd is funded by the Australian government through its Basic Education Sector Transformation Program in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).

PBEd is a non-profit, non-stock organization established in 2006 by top chief executive officers in the Philippines as a response to the call to nurture consensus and sustain actions for education policy reform.

Anna Sarte, PBEd program officer, said the Scholarship in Teacher Education Programs to Upgrade Teacher Quality in the Philippines (Step Up) is open to young professionals not older than 45 years old and graduates of any bachelor’s degree, except for Bachelor of Science in Education (BSEd).

Sarte said they have 400 scholarship slots available for this year in the entire country.

The deadline for submission of application and requirements is on May 10. The application can be downloaded at www.stepupph.org.

The requirements include application form, undergraduate transcript of records or certified true copy of grades, certificate of general average, two reference forms signed by teachers or employers, birth certificate, certificate of good moral, curriculum vitae and consent to study.

She said successful applicants may choose to enroll in Ateneo de Naga University, Cebu Normal University, Mariano Marcos State University, Philippine Normal University, University of Santo Tomas, University of South Eastern Philippines, West Visayas State University, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, and Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

Sarte said once they complete studies, the scholars will be the priority to be employed by the DepEd. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
