Screenwriting, acting workshops in Davao this April

TWO major projects are now being organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) to further promote the thriving filmmaking industry in Mindanao, as they invite aspiring screenwriters and actors to join their two-week workshops this April.

FDCP marketing officer Anthony Rebamonte said these series of workshops will help Mindanaoan filmmakers to harness and improve their skills and potentials in filmmaking as many Mindanaoan filmmakers are now being recognized nationally and abroad with their award-winning films.

"These two advanced classes are designed to be more comprehensive and in-depth. Perfect for those who are serious in the respective crafts of screenwriting, filmmaking, or acting for film and television," he said.

The Advanced Screenwriting Workshop will be held on April 18 to 22 while the Advanced Film Acting Workshop will be staged on April 24 to 29 at FDCP Cinematheque Davao.

For the screenwriting workshop, it is open for participants age 13 and above, preferably with a writing background or filmmaking experience.

The participants will be taught lessons such as techniques in writing effective screenplays that are authentic and engaging and laying out the blue print for what could be a great film.

The advance Film Acting Workshop is open for ages 16 and above, preferably with some acting experience in theater and film/TV.

The acting workshop will focus on the construction and control of a character, and delivering the perfect performance for film and television.

Likewise, Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation, Inc. (MFTDFI) chairman and executive director Dax Cañedo believed that this will help the participants to transition to the field of screen writing and mainstream acting as they will be given the chance to write a screenplay and taught how to act.

"Those people who want to focus in screen writing and acting, you can advance your level of acting like participating in this acting workshop," he said.

This is a joint effort with the MFTDFI, National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the regional office of the Philippine Information Office-Davao.

According to them, they have not yet finalized the list of speakers but it will be handled by both independent and mainstream industry practitioners and will be announced through the official media accounts of Cinematheque Davao and the MFTDFI.

The registration forms can be filled-out at FDCP Cinematheque Davao starting April 3, 2017 and the reservation via online is also available. The application will be on a first come, first serve basis with limited slots only.
