Scuaa coaches' forum slated on Sept. 1-2

COACHING philosophy and sports management will be tackled in the 1st Regional State College and University Athletic Association (Scuaa) Coaches' Forum slated September 1 and 2 at the Ritz Hotel in Garden Oasis, Barrio Obrero in Davao City.

University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) sports director Jose Alther Rivera bared this in a Facebook chat interview with SunStar Davao on Wednesday, August 23.

Under the coaching philosophy topic are developing coaching objectives, coaching style and pursuit of excellence.

Sports management covers sports-related injuries such as prevention, first-aid, rehabilitation, and strength and conditioning.

MPG main convener and Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) athletic director Noli Ayo, Akiko Thomson of the Philippine Olympian Association and Davao del Norte Sports Science officer Kris Mishael Junasa are resource speakers of the two-day coaches' forum.

Rivera added that the Mindanao Peace Games (MPG)-inspired coaches' forum aims to empower coaches from different State University Colleges (SUCs) since they play a big role in the development of the athletes.

"We also did this since the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (Pasuc) region 11 under the chairmanship of Dr. Irvin Generalao is also looking at the development of our coaches," Rivera said.

Some 50 participants from Compostela Valley State College (CVSC), Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST), Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPABMAST), University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao, USEP and Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) are expected to attend.

Participants fromnon-SUC schools are also encouraged to join the forum.

Registration is pegged at P2,400 inclusive of food, snacks and training kit.
