NEGROS Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) champion Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias of Victorias City led six other teams which will compete in the 2018 Negros Basketball Association President’s Cup starting April 8 at the Po Hang gym in Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
University of Negros Occidental Recoletos runner-up in NOPSSCEA collegiate division will carry the name of Red Taiwan Shabu Shabu while ESJ Fyre Fyter will be bannered by STI-West Negros University.
The University of St. La Salle-Freeze sportswear will parade its new recruits while La Consolacion College Bacolod-Davies Paint-J Squared Construction, Melfern, and Supreme ABF-Silver Graces Construction complete the magnificent seven teams this summer.
The tournament format is a single round robin elimination with the top two teams having a twice to beat advantage in the semifinals.
The quarterfinals will pit number 3 team against number 6 and 4 versus 5 in a knockout match.
The winner between 3 and 6 will challenge the top team while the survivor of 4 and 5 take on the number 2 team.
Admission is free on opening day with a simple ceremony starting at 3 pm.
Teams will draw a lot for its schedule after the opening rites.
Commissioner Bobby Tee and the NBA board of directors headed by perpetual president Dodong Bascon invite everyone to this summer spectacle which started to entertain Negrenses since 1985 and has produced top caliber players in the professional and collegiate leagues in Metro Manila. (HGD)
