Shabu seized from Barok's 'hitmen'

TWO "hitmen" of suspected drug lord Alvaro "Barok" Alvaro yielded 10 packs of white crystals believed to be shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) inside the detention cell of Liloan Police Station past 6 p.m. Thursday, March 2.

Senior Police Officer 1 Rommel Botaya identified the detainees as Jeppe Rosal, 29, and Arnel Noval Mata, 36.

The search team also seized drug paraphernalia from them.

Last December, police caught Rosal, Mata and their minor companion after a chase that started in Liloan and ended inside a nightclub in Mandaue City. They allegedly attempted to kill a police officer before the arrest.

Rosal, in an interview with the police, admitted he shot Senior Inspector Jonas Tajanlangit to death on April 4, 2016, but he took back his admission when he faced the reporters.

During the search, two packs of shabu were confiscated from another detainee, Procopio Segovia Gromia Jr., 33.

Botaya said they searched the detention cell, after a detainee informed them that the suspects often sniff shabu inside, unnoticed by the police guarding the cell. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
