SHS-AdC claims Adidas Cup U16 title

SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) had a stellar campaign in the Adidas Cup 2016 last weekend at the Circuit in Makati City, claiming the Girls Under-16 title and exceeding everyone’s expectations by finishing first runner-up in the Women’s Open division.

SHS-AdC defeated Nomads, 1-0, with a goal by Arantxa Trebol to win the Girls Under-16 plum.

Itsuko Bacatan was named the division’s MVP.

SHS-AdC went unbeaten in the group stage, beating Nomads, 1-0; Baguio FC, 1-0; TYFA, 3-0; and Claret, 2-0.

SHS-AdC beat Vigan Kugtaleros, 2-0, in the semi-final round for a slot at the championships.

In the Women’s Open category, SHS-AdC lost to De La Salle University (DLSU) A, 0-2.

“DLSU A was on a different level. They had good ball possession and it looked like they were just toying with us. We didn’t expect that we would beat those teams in the elimination round. Those were good teams like Philippine Airforce and Green Archers United, in which both we scored three goals on them. I’m happy and proud of the kids because they really stopped DLSU B in the semi-finals, in which we beat by a penalty shootout. It was a great experience for our players that they were able to play against those strong teams,” said SHS-AdC head coach Rose Ton Bariñan.

The championship team is composed of Trebol, Bacatan, Samaeka Castillo, Shadinne Mae Pepito, Trishia Fortuna, Judd Sydney Gonzalez, Roselle Zanoria, Regine Nicole Chua, Trisha Yu, Katrina Rodriguez, Peeve Layague, Maegan de la Cruz, Yoojin Kim and Feona Mae Avenido.
