FESTIVAL. I am glad that the Municipality of San Fernando has revived the Sikoy-Sikoy Festival, which was scrapped by the previous town officials simply because it was conceptualized and first staged by Mayor Lakambini "Neneth" Reluya. She is now back as municipal mayor after winning in last year's elections. She vowed to institutionalize the festival as a yearly event in time for San Fernando's fiesta celebration.
COMPETITION. Sikoy-Sikoy is a colloquial term for "panikoy," a fishing practice by which fishermen throw their nets into rough and sturdy waves. The festival is a street dancing and ritual competition participated in by elementary and high schools within the municipality. This year's grand winner is Barangay Panadtaran's Tribu Panadtaranon headed by Barangay Captain Nonoy Reluya.
CONCERT. Broadway Concert 2017 is a must-watch event on June 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Elizabeth Mall's The Stage. According to producer/choreographer Claudio Bryan Deiparine Jr., the concert features movie and Broadway themes and hits to be performed by Power House Dream Z talents.
STARS. The coming concert also features Sheena Belarmino, semi-finalist of ABS-CBN's “Tawag ng Tanghalan” from It's Showtime.
REUNION. Let me remind all members of the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Civil Engineering Batch '92 that your 25th anniversary and reunion is on May 27. It starts with a courtesy call on the CIT University president then a boodle fight and a 5 p.m. mass to be followed by a party at Golden Prince Hotel. My good friend Roland Villarosa is one of the energetic coordinators of this major celebration. (For reactions, text 0932-277-8771).
