Silay City employee yields firearm, ammos

AN EMPLOYEE of Silay City Hall in Negros Occidental was arrested after he yielded a firearm and several ammunition in a raid in Sitio So-ol 2, Barangay 2 on Thursday, June 22.

Operatives, with a search warrant issued by Judge Ana Celeste Bernad of Regional Trial Court Branch 69 in the city, raided the house of Elmer Palic, 40, around 1:30 p.m.

Recovered from him were a .45 caliber pistol with three magazines and 39 rounds of live ammunition. The recovered firearm had no permit.

Palic, who was detained at the station, will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Silay City Police Chief Willy Diel said Palic will also face separate charges for murder and serious physical injuries after he killed a man and injured another in a resto bar at Barangay Guinhalaran last April 16.

A witness and a survivor identified him as the suspect.

Diel said the recovered firearm will be submitted for ballistic examination to determine if was used in the crime.

Mayor Mark Golez said Palic works as a laborer at the City Engineer’s Office.

He was previously assigned as bodyguard of the former mayor, Golez added.

The mayor said he will give Palic due process as he will still face criminal charges.

He added that administrative charges will follow based on the decision of the court.

“He (Palic) will definitely be held liable for his offense. He will be dismissed from the service if proven guilty of the crime,” Golez said.
