Sipalay policeman threatened by bizman during traffic clash

A POLICEMAN was threatened by a businessman during a traffic dispute at Eroreco Subdivision in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City on Thursday.

Senior Inspector Jun Ray Batadlan, chief of Police Station 3, said Police Officer 1 Felip Caldeza, 36, who is assigned at Sipalay City Police Station, was on board a Ford Everest with his driver and another passenger.

The 48-year-old businessman, who was driving a Toyota Hi-Lux, was tailing them.

The businessman, who was reportedly under the influence of intoxicating liquor, fired at the police officer’s vehicle twice after the latter stopped on the road.

The businessman, whom Batadlan refused to name, drove beside Caldeza's vehicle and fired once again.

Caldeza opened the window of his vehicle and saw the suspect, who was demanding to get the driver’s license and car key.

Both Caldeza and the businessman agreed to wait for the police to arrive.

Police recovered from the businessman a bag containing a Glock .40 caliber with a magazine loaded with 13 live ammunition, and two extra magazines loaded with 20 rounds of live ammunition.

The recovered firearm has a license but the suspect was still placed under police custody because of his other violations.

Batadlan said Caldeza filed charges for alarm and scandal, grave threat, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition against the suspect, who is presently under hospital arrest after he suffered hypertension.
