Meanwhile, SLU Engineering Department Head, Engr. Romeo Santos assured said their new mining engineers will practice responsible and sustainable mining.

Santos said the university taught and equipped their students with the right knowledge and understanding of the mining industry giving importance to the environmental aspect of mining adding responsible mining is part of their curriculum.

Santos added they believe and support the advocacy being pushed by President Rodrigo Duterte and Environment Secretary Gina Lopez in making sure that mining companies are practicing responsible and sustainable mining in the country.

The SLU official is positive that despite the closure of several mining companies due to lapses on the effect of environment, mining will not be eradicated but would shape up to become a better industry. (Redjie Melvic Cawis/PIA-CAR)
