SM City Tarlac observes Earth Day 2017 with a cause

TARLAC CITY -- Annually Earth Day was being observed worldwide not just by the public and government sector but also by the private sector like SM Supermalls.

One of its provincial malls located in Tarlac has celebrated Earth Day through an exhibition of artworks of second year Fine Arts students from Tarlac State University (TSU) advocating the conservation of Mother Earth and spoken word poetry performances which has captured the heart of the audience and mall-goers about environmental issues.

For this year, SM City Tarlac also tapped the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and some other TSU students to be part of the celebration of Earth Day.

The event commenced with ribbon cutting followed by an opening remarks from Michelle Charlene Chua, SM City Tarlac assistant mall manager. Then Belly Cabeso, Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Environmental Management Bureau Senior Environmental management specialist and in-charge Program Development and Technical Services Section gave a very informative speech about the best contribution one can do to help the government in conserving nature.

Cabezo also hoped that Earth Day would not just be observed every 22nd of April but also every day.

Right after the Earth Day talk, the spoken word poetry titled, “Sa mundo ka nahulog” was performed by Jahred Bertolfo, a TSU AB English student and “Namamatay ako” by Paulo Jeremy Miral, a TSU CBA student.

All in all 18 paintings about protecting the Mother Earth were exhibited at the Mall Atrium, of SM City Tarlac. These include the works of Gab Masanque, Marc Jean Vinuya, Ellis John Magbag, Nhel Kimberly Corpuz, Jessamine Ferrer, Ralph Brilliant Mamucod, Jaymark Fernandez, Billie Joe Dela Cruz, Sesty Magbalita, Melody Serrano, Rei Carlo Abellar, Kenneth Leo Pamlas, Mike Ashlee Abueme, Antonio Gamboa III, Helen Julia Galima, Jolifel Narne, John Aaron Parazo, Angelu Mae Tabamo, Rei Carlo Abellar and Darwin Racadio.

All SM Supermalls made an extra effort to promote proper waste segregation through the trash-to-cash recycling market strategy. (PR)
