Socob launches 2018 search

THE search for the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (Socob) is now open with the main objective of searching for "Outstanding Baguio Citizens" for the 2018 Awards of Distinction which embodies the essence of leadership, commitment, compassion and community service.

Socob Vice President and Search 2018 Chairperson Atty. Betty Lourdes Tabanda explained the search is an annual project of Socob since its establishment in 2006.

"The main objective of the yearly search for citizens who have made extraordinary contributions for the betterment of Baguio and its people through their work, advocacies and accomplishments," said the Chairperson.

Since 1975, Baguio City has recognized five hundred sixty two (562) men and women as outstanding citizens.

Meanwhile, Socob Chairman and Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan reiterated the need for the Baguio community to help look for possible candidates for the yearly search.

"Although we have been awarding select residents of Baguio City, I still believe there are those residents in the city deserving of the award which have not been found yet".

Nominees will be judged according to their contribution to the welfare, development, and growth of Baguio City through direct or active involvement, significant, or substantive contribution.

Tabanda added "Nominees must also have never been convicted of any crime, and has a good reputation, credibility, and respectability in the community,"

This year's batch of outstanding Baguio citizens will be awarded during the celebration of Baguio Day on September 1, 2018 at the Baguio Convention Center.

This year's nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m. on April 30,2018 at the City Mayor's Office (CMO) or at the Philippine Information Agency – Cordillera Regional Office.

Nominees must have resided in Baguio for at least 10 years and should have gone beyond the normal functions and responsibilities, while nominations may be done by any individual or group.
