Soil erosion blocks brgy. road

THE heavy rain yesterday morning resulted in a minor landslide in a remote sitio in one of the mountain barangays in Cebu City, an official said.

Cebu City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) chief Nagiel Bañacia said the heavy rain loosened the soil along the road in Sitio Lanipaw, Barangay Sapangdaku.

Bañacia said rocks started to fall on the road but it did not cause any damage or injury to pedestrians and motorists.

“We sent personnel from the quick response team to the area. The barangay also helped in clearing the blocked road. They started clearing at 4 a.m. yesterday. By 7 a.m., students were able to pass and go to their school,” he said in an interview.

The landslide yesterday was the first reported incident for this month following the recent rains, Bañacia said.

As part of their preventive measures, CCDRRMO fielded one backhoe in Sapangdaku to immediately clear debris should another landslide hit the upland villages.

Bañacia reminded the public to remain careful since the rains are causing the soil to loosen.

CCDRRMO will remain on high alert as the rain continues.
