Soil testing ongoing for construction of flyovers

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is conducting again a soil exploration drilling in preparation for the construction of a flyover along the west coast highway in Zamboanga.

The flyover will be located along the junction of San Roque-Gabilan and Zamboanga City-Labuan highway. It is intended for west-bound vehicles.

The flyover is one of two gigantic projects proposed by first district Representative Celso Lobregat.

The other one, which has completed soil exploration, will be built at the intersection of Veterans and Governor Camins Avenue that would cater to east-bound vehicles.

Lobregat, who chairs the House committee on public works and highway, said the soil exploration is part of the process for the implementation of the two projects.

The construction of the flyovers was aimed to help decongest traffic both in Zamboanga City's east and west coasts.

"The contractor has to establish the soil quality in the said location where the second flyover will be constructed, in order also to determine the type of foundation they will lay down for the said project," Lobregat said.

He said the construction of the two projects, which cost P600 million, will be funded by the National Government through the DPWH. It is in line with the "Build, Build, Build" program of President Rodrigo Duterte. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
