Soldier kills comrade in Basilan

A SOLDIER was killed by his comrade while in deep slumber at a military outpost in the province of Basilan, the police reported Monday.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 5:27 a.m. Sunday in the village of Masola, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan.

Galvez identified the victim as Private First Class (PFC) Jerry Arasain, 27, a member of the 15th Special Force Company of the Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion.

Galvez identified the suspect as PFC Arkim Julain, 26, who belongs to the same military unit.

Arasain and Julain are province-mates since they are residents of the towns of Jolo and Panamao, Sulu, respectively.

Galvez said investigation showed that Arasain was sleeping in a hammock when the suspect, Julain, repeatedly shot him. The victim died instantly.

She said the company commanding officer immediately arrested the suspect.
