THE Negros Occidental Provincial Board on Wednesday approved the giving of authority to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to sign a contract between the province and 428 Far Eastern Realty Corp. for the construction of the P10-million two-storey, six-classroom Annex Building at the Negros Occidental High School in Bacolod City.
The establishment of additional classrooms became controversial when the previous SP had disapproved the budget, especially at the height of the campaign period prior to the May 13 elections.
Board Member Salvador Escalante said that the six replacement classrooms for NOHS became controversial, and in fact, there was a move for a fundraising to be held led by the department heads of the Capitol for the construction.
Escalante said the P10-million fund for the additional classrooms will be taken from the General Fund of the Provincial Government and from the Local School Board.
The dilapidated classrooms were demolished to give way to the delivery of materials for the 24 classrooms which were provided by the provincial government to NOHS, in exchange for the return of the Paglaum Sports Complex by the Department of Education to the Provincial Government.
