SPC captures chess team tourney title

THE San Pedro College (SPC) emerged champion in the just-concluded first Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) inter-collegiate chess tournament held at the AdDU Miguel Pro Study Center, Jacinto Campus.

Gino Angelo Asuncion, Tahseen Saludsong, James Rhey Bantugan and Khy Nad totalled 17 points in the five-round Swiss System format chessfest organized by AdDU coaches Ariel Aton, Alexander Clavite, and James Bulicatin.

Asuncion and Saludsong each scored perfect five points as teammates Bantugan and Nad tallied four and three points, respectively.

The champion team received a cash prize of P3,000 over next two placers Cor Jesu College (16.0) and AdDU-SHS Team A (13.0). CJC pocketed P2,000 while AdDU-SHS Team A had P1,000.

Other teams entered were Holy Cross College of Davao (9.0), Addu-College (4.0) and AdDU-SHS Team B (0.0). (ABM)
