St. Scholastica's Academy goes solar

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – For the love of the environment and human kind.

This was how the St. Scholastica’s Academy (SSA) administration explained their decision to shift to solar power for their Pampanga campus.

SSA Student Coordinator Jonathan Manalo disclosed that the project is one of the biggest steps of the Benedictine school in its commitment to preserve Mother Earth.

“According to Green Heat, we are able to save around 1,500 adult trees per year through the use of solar power. And this equates to how many more years for Mother Earth and of course, human kind, our future generation,” Manalo said.

He disclosed that at least 30 solar panels were installed by Green Heat International to provide for the energy needs of the campus which has some 3,000 population.

With the installation, Manalo said that the campus was also able to save thousands in electricity expenses, which are diverted to the payment of the solar panels.

“We have an installment basis agreement with Green Heat. The service includes the solar panels and its maintenance and after 14 years, the solar panels will become SSA’s property,” he explained.

Being the first solar-powered school in Pampanga, SSA is hopeful that other institutions will soon follow to ensure that the future generation will still experience the beauty of Mother Earth.

“We love the children. That is why we are in this profession, just different institutions. But what better way can we show our love than to let them see and experience the beauty of nature in the near future. And we can only do this by preserving our environment,” he said.
