Statistics: 97% of Davao Region's 10-above are literate

THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has recorded 97.9 percent, aged 10 and above, who are able to read and write a simple message in any language in Davao Region based on 2015 Census of Population (Popcen).

Data obtained from PSA-Davao said the region had 97.9 percent among the 3,793,848 household population aged 10 above. A person is considered literate if s/he can read and write a simple message in any language.

The literacy rate in 2015, according to the PSA, was a bit higher among females with 98 percent as compared to males with 97.8 percent.

Meanwhile, the PSA also noted 3.2 percent was noted to be no grade completed in 2015 based on percent distribution of the total population aged five and above by highest grade completed.

Pre-school has 3 percent highest grade completed, elementary with 37, high school with 36, post-secondary with 1.4, college undergraduate with 9.9, academic degree with 8.9, and post baccalaureate with 1 percent.

Among those with economic degree, females with 57 percent were higher than males with only 43 percent. Those with post baccalaureate courses, females with 56 percent outnumbered males with 44 percent.

In school attendance, of the 1,990,682 household population—from 5 to 24 years old—68 percent were attending school in school year 2015-2016.

By sex, the school attendance rate in 2015 was higher among females with 69.4 percent than among males with 68.6 percent.
