SAN SIMON -- Police found on Wednesday suspected stolen chickens in the house of a former councilman and village chief of this town.
This, after combined operatives of the Sta.Maria and San Simon police arrested three natives from Barangay San Pablo Propio, who were allegedly involved in a recent hijacking of a delivery truck in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, were the chickens reportedly came from.
The suspects believed to be members of a hijacking group were identified as Elmer Sta. Ana, 32; Alexlie Dantes, 24; and Joe De Guzman, 30, all residents of Barangay San Pablo Propio. Police also identified the former councilman and village chief as one Benjamin De Guzman.
Initial investigation showed that Sta. Maria police Chief Lalaine Amparo coordinated with the local police around 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Amparo said the hijacking transpired within their area of responsibility, but the suspects were believed to be hiding in Barangay San Pablo Propio.
Chief Inspector Michael John Riego then conducted a follow up operation which eventually resulted to the arrest of the suspects, the recovery of the delivery truck and the discovery of the stolen chickens at the house of De Guzman.
Senior Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, Pampanga police acting provincial director, said the chickens were sold to unidentified persons, of which the former councilman and village chief could have been one.
Sun.Star Pampanga tried but failed to reach De Guzman at press time for comments.
The suspects were subsequently brought to the Sta. Maria Police Station for proper disposition. (With reports from Ric Sapnu)
