MANILA (Updated) -- Tropical Depression "Isang" accelerated Wednesday while traversing the Balintang Channel after making landfall in Isabela and Cagayan area, the weather bureau said.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said public storm signal number 1 remain hoisted over Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands and Batanes Group of Islands.
Public storm signals elsewhere were lifted.
The tropical depression made landfall in Estagno Point in Isabela around 4 a.m. Wednesday and made another landfall in Lallo, Cagayan around 5:10 a.m.
Pagasa estimated the rainfall amount within Isang’s 300-kilometer diameter from five to 15 millimeters per hour.
It said Isang will enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas.
The tropical depression is expected to be at 540 kilometers northwest of Aparri, Cagayan, or out of the country by Thursday morning.
Pagasa said that the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and the province of Aurora will have rains and gusty winds with moderate to rough seas.
Areas in Luzon, Western and Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the rest of Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the west to southwest with slight to moderate seas.
Pagasa advised residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal 1 to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides. (PNA/Sunnex)
