Stray bullet hits Misamis Oriental jail

AN OFFICIAL of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) is urging the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) to investigate an incident in which a stray bullet that fell through the roof of the female cell facility around 5:30 p.m., Monday, July 24, hitting an unoccupied bed of an inmate.

Jail warden Dominador Tagarda said the bullet was from a caliber .45 pistol.

"Ang mayor sa selda sa mga female inmates ang nagtunol sa ato sa bala unya ato dayong gisusi ug nakita ang buslot sa atop lahos sa higdaanan sa babayeng priso nga may na lang wala niadtong tungora makahigda," Tagarda said.

The female cell has 47 inmates and almost 40 percent were inside when the stray bullet went through.

Tagarda said the bullet maybe coming from Carmen village or near Limketkai area.

"Sigurado ta diri ra gyud na sa syudad gikan posible sa may Carmen or Limketkai nga area," Tagarda said.

The MOPJ warden said he already asked the city police to conduct probe though he admits it would be difficult to determine the origin of the bullet.

Tagarda calls on anyone that may have knowledge on somebody who fired a gun on same day as it already caused the inmates to worry.

"Lisod ma-identify aha gikan ang bala pero pinaagi sa investigation sa police kung mahibal-an nga dunay nagpabuto sa mga nearby barangays posible ma-determine nato aha gikan ang bala," Tagarda said.

Tagarda has advised gun holders to be responsible in carrying their firearms to prevent causing harm and danger to the community.

"Nagsulat na ta sa city police director para ma-imbestiga kini ug pahimangno nato nga unta responsable lang ang paggamit sa armas kay martial law baya unya naay order sa mga private gun owners nga dili mogamit sa armas," Tagarda added.
